The tourism sector and business a large will face a boost after the launch of the construction of Port Reitz/ Moi International Airport by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Kenyan government has joined hands with the UK government to ensure that the road turns into a dual carriage from the Port of Mombasa to the airport.

The Kenyan government will give Sh.1.1 billion towards the project while Sh.2 billion will come from the UK government. The project is meant to ease traffic jams that is always experiences on the road that leads to great losses in businesses and sometimes people missing on their flights.

Last month, tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala unveiled Sh.1.2 billion Charter Incentive Programme for Kenya (CIP)that was aimed at reducing tourist costs and help in recovering lost business from tourist charter companies. Balala disclosed that the high costs at the coast were among the things that led to the slow growth of the tourism sector at the coast.

These are among the measures that have been put in place as a way of regaining the lost glory in the Coasts Tourism Sector. The Dual carriageway will help in making movements of people to and from the airport abit easy as compared to how it has been.

Stakeholders in the Coastal Tourism Sector supported the move by the president and urged the government to continue doing more in that sector. The Tourism sector has for a long time been the back bone of the Kenyan economy up to the time when insecurity became an issue in the country.

The road leading to Moi International Airport has been in a mess for a long period of time. People in the transport sector too were happy about the news since their business will face growth and they will be using minimal time while driving their passengers to and from the airport. The image of Mombasa will also change due to the construction of the road.

Among the things expected to be installed during the construction include setting up road intersections, traffic lights, good drainage systems, sidewalks and junctions.
