As the global community reaffirms its commitment to the achievement of a malaria free world with the celebrations of World Malaria Day on 25th of April, RB through is brand, Mortein Doom has reaffirmed its partnership with Mbagathi Hospital towards ensuring that the cases and the effects of malaria are maximally put under control in Kenya.

Speaking on the achievement made so far of the partnership, RB Country Manager Sachin Varma said that Malaria continues to pose a significant health risk in many African countries especially to mothers as well as children under the age of five.

“Despite the steady progress in the reduction of cases of malaria as reported last year, transmission is still considered a threat to the efforts that have been made so far towards fighting this possibly fatal disease.”

At the moment, more than half a million people lose their lives annually due to malaria with most of them being children.

“Malaria claims the lives of 453,000 children per year, 90 percent of those come from Africa. That means that 1,300 kids lose their lives from malaria each day.” Said Mr. Sachin.

While receiving the donation from RB, Mbagathi Hospital Health Superintended Dr. Andrew Sule noted that there has been an increase in the number of deliveries at the facility since the expansion program that was initiated by the County Government.

“There has been an increase in the number of deliveries at our hospital from 200 to 450 per month, which is a significant number of mothers and children who are vulnerable to the contracting of malaria. We are grateful to Mortein Doom for this continued partnership as a combined effort in the fight against this killer disease.” Said Mr. Sule.

Mortein Doom has been involved in various vector control activities at the community level, working with Pumwani Maternity Hospital as well as Kenyatta National Hospital in providing them with insecticide sprays to assist in malaria control especially among expectant women.
