KCSE Results Out, Another Surprise for 2016 Candidates

The Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiang’i pulled yet another surprise for the 2016 KCSE candidates when he released the 2016 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

The results were released at Shimo la Tewa Secondary School on Thursday at 2 in the afternoon barely a month after the sitting of the examination was completed. The results also were released two months earlier than the traditional time of the month of March.
From the results released by CS Matiang’i, 577,253 candidates registered for the KCSE examinations this year (2016) this being an increase of more than 50 thousand candidates than those registered last year (2015) while 577,079 sat for the examinations with the huge number of those who performed better being that of girls.
Different from other years, this year, only 141 candidates managed to score As. In other years, these As would have been for a one single school. 4641 candidates scored A- (minus) and 10975 candidates scored B+ (plus).
According to Dr. Matiang’i, those schools that scored hundreds of As in the last year’s KCSE results could not manage more than 10 As this year with one that had more than 200 As last year managing only two As this year.
A total of 88,929 candidates scored between the A grade and C+ (plus) out of the more than 570 thousand candidates. This represented only 15 percent of the number of candidates who sat for the examination.
Just like it was during the release of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) where there was no malpractice, the same happened in KCSE results this year.
This year too, according to Dr. Fred Matiang’i, no candidate will miss their results different from last year (2015), where more than 5000 candidates missed their results.
“These results reflect what our children are, where they were and where they should be,” said the Cabinet Secretary. “These are honest results. We should be honest people,” he added.
“There is honor in getting children and we have no right to destroy their future,” said the Chairman of KNEC Professor Magokha.
