Why Tampons Are the Best Thing to Happen to Women

Almost every woman dreads that time of the month when they get that unwanted bloody visitor. Not every menstrual experience is the same for everyone but that time of the month is most dreaded by the majority of women.
When it comes to the question of whether tampons are better than pads, the real answer is up to you. Most girls start out using pads, but some go straight to tampons.
Most women are scared of using tampons due to a variety of reasons and myths surrounding the use of tampons and I’m here to slam those myths.
For example, it is a common belief that tampons interfere with the virginity. This is incorrect and is not scientifically backed.
Another common worry among women is that the tampon will disappear or get stuck in the vagina once inserted. This cannot happen as they come with a string that you can easily use to pull out the tampon once it’s full.
Discovering tampons, for me, was the best thing to happen for my menstruation. Before tampons, I had to endure the discomfort that comes with using pads. That wet feeling that comes with the use of pads was the most annoying part of it.

Here are five reasons why ditching pads for tampons is the best thing you can do for yourself;
- They are very comfortable
Unlike sanitary towels, tampons are designed to fit perfectly in the vaginal canal, so you won’t feel them once they’re inserted properly. You barely even feel like there’s something that’s inside your vagina.
- They are more hygienic.
Tampons absorb your blood immediately from the inside, so you don’t have to worry about it getting all over the outer part of your vagina. Less blood, less mess.
Nonetheless, I suggest you wear a panty liner just in case it leaks, which shouldn’t happen if you use the correct type of absorbency (like pads, there are tampons for light and heavy days) and you change every 4 hours.
- You can be active and even go swimming.
Having your period usually limits physical activity, so it really helps when you feel like you don’t have it. Wearing tampons will make you feel less paranoid about leaking.
With tampons, you are guaranteed of no leakages and with that, you can go swimming feeling confident.
- They are less bulky to carry around.
Tampons are small, compact and slim. Therefore, you can even fit them in your clutch or your pocket. This saves you the discomfort of having to carry around large and noisy sanitary pads.
- They can be worn with any outfit
Pads can limit what you wear since they are bulky and can be visible if worn with tight clothes. Tampons, on the other hand, are invisible and can be worn with short shorts, skirts, and even bikinis.
Key Notes About Tampons
Tampons have been known to cause Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). Even though TSS is pretty rare nowadays, it still warrants consideration.
TSS is essentially a staph infection and seems to occur most commonly when “superabsorbent” tampons are used.
To avoid this, if you decide to use tampons, it is safest to use the lowest absorbency tampon for your particular flow.
Also, you are encouraged to change your tampon every 4-8 hours.
