Top 10 Most Searched Items on Google by Kenyans in June

Google released information Kenyans have been searching on Google in the month of June, where the African Cup of Nations came in first as the most searched item.

According to Google, Kenyans searched the following in June:

  1. AFCON
  2. FIFA Women’s World Cup
  3. Malik Heights fire
  4. KRA
  5. KNBS census
  6. Father’s Day
  7. Margaret Ogola
  8. Esther Passaris
  9. Ebola
  10. Kenyan new currency

AFCON 2019 is currently going on and is being hosted in Cairo, Egypt since 21st, June, and is expected to end on July 19. Kenyan national team the Harambee Stars had played against several teams. Football being one of the most loved sport by Kenyans, this could explain its being the most searched item on Google.

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 has been hosted by France since 7th June and is to end on 7 July 2019 was the second most searched items by Kenyans.

The Women’s World Cup is contested by 24 women’s national teams in the member associations of FIFA with matches staged in nine cities in France.

Apart from sports, Kenyans googled about the Malik Heights fire incident that occurred in early June and led to the destruction of property worth 600 million shillings.

June is also the month in which Kenyans file their KRA returns. Being known for last minute rushes, it is no wonder that the KRA portal was searched by a huge number of Kenyans in June.

Kenyan novelist and author of the renowned book The River and the Source Margaret Ogola who google commemorated on her 61st birthday, eight years after her death also got to the list of the top ten most searched items.

Census is yet to be conducted in the month of August and many Kenyans who wish to apply for the one-month job are searching on google for the process of application.

Ebola case was in June reported in a Kericho hospital, while Nairobi Women Representative trended in June for walking out of the Madaraka Day celebrations.

On the new Kenyan currency, Kenya is replacing its old currencies, where by October, the old 1000-shilling note will cease to be valid.
