A mobile health solutions provider plans to spend 60 million as an initiative program to build more roadside emergency centers near blackspots to enhance the treatment of road crash victims.

Nurse in Hand Emergency Response said that emergency centers along the highways, especially near the accident-prone (blackspots) areas, would help speed how crash victims are attended to and help save lives.

According to Khamas Yarsin, the Chief Executive officer of Nurse in Hand Emergency Response, previous statistics have revealed that a large number of people die along killer stretches because of delayed access to quality services.

The organization said that it will purchase several motorcycles that shall be operated by well-trained paramedics to be stationed at different emergency centers.

For the purchase of motorcycles, the organization said it had set aside 27 million shillings, and that several have already been bought.

These motorcycles will be equipped with emergency medical response kits to enhance quick response by the medics as they await ambulances.

“They are standard emergency response motorcycles installed with a first-aid kit, pannier boxes and a radio system that will be used for communication,” Yarsin said.

Mr Yarsin observed that only 18 percent of emergency centers are located along the North Corridor that is between Mombasa and Kisumu, with five centers already established at Delamare, Mbaruk, Sachang’wan, Kikopey, and Kinungi areas which are perceived as busy highways.

The organization said that out of the 60 million shillings, 33 million will be used to set up the emergency facilities and also hire well-trained medics.

The emergency centers will be established along the busy highways, near the accident-prone areas and also in a number of hospitals.

Nakuru county hospital recorded the largest number of accidents because it is near several blackspots including Salgaa, Migaa, Sachang’wan, and Kikopey.

Mr Yarsin said that they are in contact with several matatu SACCOs that operate along the busy highways and are training them on how to alert the emergency teams in case there is an accident.
