TSC Fires 36 Teachers Over Professional Misconduct

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia has announced today, 4th October 2019, the deregistration of 36 teachers over professional misconduct.

“The TSC wishes to make it official to members of the public that the teachers whose names appear in the notice have been deregistered in accordance with section 30(1) (e) of TSC Act, and are no longer employees of the commission,” said the CEO.

TSC CEO made the sacking official through a gazette notice the same day after she delists the teachers’ names from the TSC register.

The 36 teachers, according to Ms. Macharia were sacked due to their involvement in unethical behavior, including sexual affairs with their students.

Their registration means that the teachers will never be allowed to teach in any school in the country, whether public or private.

The commission is said to be conducting investigations on teachers accused of having sexual relations with learners as already 51 teachers who have been accused of the same offense may be on their way to deregistration.

Through the CEO, the commission promised to have the outcome of their investigations before November, which means it is expected any time this month.

Today’s deregistration from the TSC list is not the first this year. Early last month, the commission sacked 42 teachers under Knut who were accused of disrupting the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) earlier in the year.

The 42 teachers had been reported to have caused chaos in various CBC centers preventing the scheduled training from taking place.

Reports from the commission indicated that a total of 219 teachers were facing disciplinary actions and out of the 219 teachers, 124 were facing interdiction.

TSC further reported that 30 teachers had received warning letters and would be closely monitored by the commission while 17 teachers who had been interdicted had their interdiction lifted.
