Prices of Common Commodities Across Naivas, Carrefour and Quickmart

The festive season is here with us and as you will notice, a majority of shops have already begun decorating with the lightings, wordings and promotions, as we must all have learned following the aflatoxin laden banned products. A look at a number of supermarkets reveals that indeed prices of commodities known to sell out during this festive season such as wheat flour, rice, cooking oil, and sugar have gone down by a few shillings.
Common commodities such as tissue paper and salt remain stagnated price-wise mostly because their need remains open irrespective of the season.
A two-kilogram packet of maize flour is currently selling at 115 shillings with Carrefour, Naivas and Quickmart hypermarket selling the Exe Chapati packet at 123 shillings.
A packet of Jogoo Maize four is selling at 117 shillings at Carrefour, 130 shillings at Quickmart Supermarket along Thika Road at Mountain Mall.
Naivas is selling Ndovu 2kg wheat flour packet at 112 shillings while Quickmart is selling the same at 6 shillings higher which is 118 shillings.
Cooking Oil is selling depending on brand and quality as a 10 litre Jerri can of Elianto oil remains one of the most expensive cooking oils selling at 2744 shillings at Naivas and a shilling more at Quickmart which is at 2945 shillings.
Golden fry cooking oil is the most affordable with a 10 litre Jerri can selling at 1392 shillings in a majority of supermarkets.
Pishori rice, mostly used in the preparation of Pilau, is selling at an average of 1000 shillings with the Naivas Pishori selling at 980 shillings.
CIL Pishori is currently one of the most expensive in outlets with a 5kilogram packet going for 1166 shillings at Naivas and 1170 shillings at Quickmart.
An assessment of prices across different commodities cannot be complete without Kenya’s fan-favorite: sugar. Below is a price comparison of various brands of sugar across Naivas and Quickmart:
Shopping is fun when you do not have to worry about the prices because the finances at that point are a non-issue but with the current economy, majority of Kenyans cannot afford the luxury of not worrying about any cost.
Kenya has had over 13 companies retrenching while a large number of others will end the year without paying their employees despite the long holidays that call for huge expenditure having in mind schools are closed.
Well, December festivities must be held and merry must be made as Kenyans love their culture which involves spending time with their loved ones, while at it ensure to save every possible coin as January is always known to be tough.
