Kenya has today, 19th May 2020, recorded an additional 51 new cases of COVID-19, raising the country’s total number to 963 according to the Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

The 51 COVID-19 positive cases are out of 1,933 samples tested in the last 24 hours with thirty-two of these being males and 19 females. COVID-19 has now been reported in 23 counties so far in Kenya.

Kenya has not registered any fatalities to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours and the number of fatalities hence still is 50.

Wajir County has a total of 14 confirmed COVID-19 cases with twelve of those coming from Somalia.

Nyumba Kumi initiative has been detrimental in preventing along borders to prevent the importation of coronavirus cases by reporting those crossing the borders.

Out of the 50 deaths that Kenya has recorded, 15, which is 30 percent, occurred in homes which CS Mutahi Kagwe has blamed for higher infection and death rate in Mombasa as it hinders contact tracing.

Kamkunji in Nairobi has been noted as a hotspot of COVID-19 with 104 total positive cases reported in the area while Old Town in Mombasa has been named as a hotspot that has reported high numbers of fatality.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has urged Kenyans to ensure they take the sick to hospitals to minimize the number of people dying at home.

CS Mutahi Kagwe has also lauded Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho saying he has done the very best given the situation befalling the county.

Of Kenya’s total Covid-19 numbers, Nairobi has 470 cases, Mombasa has 331 while 38 percent of COVID-19 cases are of females while 62 percent are of males.

The most affected age range is between 20 to 39 years of age and they are now being referred to as mosquitoes as the Health CS says they are quick transmitters but never succumb to the infection.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said Nyumba Kumi activities have been raised along borders to prevent the importation of coronavirus cases.
