Thousands of Kenyan vehicle owners have until December 2026 to collect unclaimed physical logbooks from National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) offices or risk having the documents destroyed under the agency’s records management policy.

This reminder, shared on Tuesday, follows an earlier announcement that NTSA will only keep uncollected physical logbooks for six months before they’re tossed out.

“We’re just five months away from the deadline, and we strongly encourage all vehicle owners with logbooks still sitting at NTSA offices to come and collect them as soon as possible to avoid any hassles,” the Authority stated.

This deadline specifically impacts motorists whose printed logbooks are still unclaimed at NTSA offices and Huduma Centres nationwide. If these documents are destroyed, owners will have to go through a lengthy process to get duplicates, which includes obtaining a police abstract, an affidavit and a tape lift report.

Not picking up your logbook on time could also slow down vehicle ownership transfers, insurance processing, financing applications and other registration services that depend on having the original logbook.

To check if your logbook is ready, you can use NTSA’s online portal, visit the office or Huduma Centre where you applied, or reach out to the Authority through their customer care channels. Collecting your logbook is free, but make sure to bring your previous logbook and a national ID to prove ownership.

This notice comes as NTSA is rolling out its new electronic logbook (eLogbook) system, which started on June 10, 2026, replacing paper logbooks for new vehicle registrations. This digital platform allows vehicle owners to access and verify their registration certificates through their eCitizen accounts, using encrypted records and QR code verification. However, NTSA has confirmed that physical logbooks issued before this transition will still be valid.
