According to the 2021-2025 CBA, the lowest-earning teacher in grade B5 (The entry grade for primary school teachers) earn between KSh21,756 and KSh27,195 per month. The highest-paid teacher in grade D5 will earn a monthly salary of KSh157,656.
The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, seeks to employ 14,460 teachers, the highest number in recent times as it grapples with fixing the acute shortage of tutors in public primary and secondary schools.
TSC has declared 5,000 teaching vacancies to support the government policy on 100 percent transition of learners from primary to secondary schools and to address the existing teacher shortage.
According to TSC, 3,972 of the recruited teachers will be posted to different secondary schools to assist in the 100 percent transition policy which was initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta. 1,000 teachers will be posted to primary institutions while teacher training colleges will get 28 tutors.
TSC will apply affirmative action in recruitment for schools in Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir counties, which are greatly understaffed and shunned by many because of security concerns. The recruitment drive will apply affirmative action targeting schools in Mandera, Garissa, and Wajir counties.
The North Eastern County is set to receive 1000 teachers. In a re-advertisement published on Monday, June 27 the Nancy Macharia-led commission said that it was set to hire 764 primary school and 80 secondary school teachers.
TSC also re-advertised 386 positions with 114 for primary schools and 272 for secondary schools on contractual terms to fill the vacancies in Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir.
“To qualify for recruitment, a candidate should be a Kenyan citizen, be hailing from Garissa, Mandera or Wajir Counties, be teaching under Board of Management in Garissa, Mandera or Wajir Counties,” read part of the notice

To fill vacancies that have been left vacant by exits, the commission will recruit 6,539 teachers for primary and 1,691 others for secondary schools. These too will be on permanent and pensionable terms.
TSC has lined up 844 permanent positions for schools in the north. Through affirmative action, the jobs are earmarked for teachers from the region. This is a re-advertisement after the commission failed to get enough teachers in a previous recruitment drive. Primary schools will get 764 teachers while 80 will be posted to secondary institutions.

How to Apply
The TSC does not accept paper applications. All their applications are only submitted through their online portal. According to the TSC portal, all sections must be filled with the required information as prompted.
The applicants are also expected to scan and attach only the required documents. Only original documents should be scanned and uploaded. For expatriate teachers, they are expected to attach a letter of clearance from the Ministry of Education Vetting Committee
