Magoha Announces Term Two Closing Date Clears The Air On Extension Of Schools Calendar

BY Getrude Mathayo · August 25, 2022 04:08 pm

The Education Cabinet Secretary, prof George Magoha has ruled out an extension of the school Calendar amidst pressure from the education sector, and head teachers.

CS Magoha was speaking in Njiru after opening Competency Based Curriculum. He stated that the ministry is keen to ensure the school Calendar normalizes in January 2023.

He said that despite the tumultuous political climate, there are currently no intentions to change the calendar.

“Everybody seems to be worried that time should be extended, in my assessment most schools have already completed the syllabus, they just need to revise, and all will be well, those that think the term will be short, we wait and cross the bridge when we get there,” Magoha stated.

Magoha affirmed that the scheduled administration of the national exams would occur as planned. Given that the second term is scheduled to expire on September 16, schools are required to make up lost time in the following four weeks.

In an effort to make up for the lost time in the already constricted academic calendar, He stated last week that schools would not be closed in the case of a repeat election. The education CS added that since most counties have completed 85% of them, the government is on track to implement junior secondary classrooms

CS Magoha urged school administrators to engage with the parent to find a solution rather than sending any students home for failing to pay their tuition. He also maintained that the schools in eight electoral areas where the by-elections are slated to be held on Monday will remain closed for just a day.
