KEY POINTS
Within the academic year 2023, Kenya’s school term dates will return to normal. The KCPE and KCSE national exams will be administered as normal in November 2023. The academic year in 2023 will begin on January 23 and end on November 3, 2023.
All schools are set to break early for midterm this month. The Ministry of Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang announced the changes through a circular dated 24th April
According to the earlier timetable, the mid-term break was scheduled to start from June 29 to July 2, 2023, and will instead run from June 27 to July 1, 2023.
Mr. Kahi Indimuli of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) pleaded with PS Kipsang to make changes to the dates to allow secondary school heads to attend a KESSHA conference.
The KESSHA chair requested an extension of the second term’s midterm dates in a letter dated March 26th in order to accommodate the 46th KESSHA conference.
The Second Term was supposed to run for 14 weeks to August 11 with a mid-term break slated for June. According to Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, the Ministry had issued a circular directing schools to be extra vigilant on what learners consume and ensure they are well inspected.

The first term of 2023 begins on January 23, 2023, and ends on April 21, 2023, totaling 13 weeks. The three days between September 23 and September 26 are designated as midterm breaks. From April 22 through May 7, there are two weeks of the holiday break.
Term 2 is a 13-week period that begins on May 8 and ends on August 11 of 2023. After that, students will take a two-week break from August 12 to August 27, 2023.
One sector that had been impacted by the coronavirus last year was education. The education system has undergone significant changes since the pandemic began. Prior to the Coronavirus, the academic calendar allotted sufficient time for each term, and teachers typically did a good job of managing the syllabus.
