KCSE Main Exams Officially Kicks Off With At Least 900,000 Candidates

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations officially kicked off on Monday, 6th November. About 903,260 candidates who registered for this year’s KCSE across the country started with Chemistry paper and English (functional skills)
On Tuesday 7th, the students will write English paper 2 (Comprehension, Literary Appreciation & Grammar) tomorrow, Tuesday from 2 pm to 4.30 pm. The national exam is set to run till November 24 ending with Physics practicals.

Practicals including French, German, Arabic orals, Kenya Sign Language, and music among others were done last week.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang and other Officials from the Ministry of Education arrived at various exam collection centers early in the morning to oversee the distribution of exam materials.
Kipsang is supervising the distribution of KCSE2023 Examination materials at the Westlands Subcounty Container, Nairobi, on Waiyaki Way.

“Our focus should be on value addition to our students. Whatever results that our children will get is from the input of our teams in schools,” Kipsang said in a media address on Monday.
The government has affirmed that it has a multiagency team to ensure that all systems are in place to guarantee the credibility of the examinations and that the process runs smoothly. The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) is using 567 distribution containers for KCSE, which is an additional 82 compared to last year.

Candidates sitting KCSE exams beginning next year will have to wait for their results before selecting their preferred university and college choices, it has emerged. This is after the Ministry of Education banned the application for university places by candidates while they are still in school has been the practice.
Students will be required to make the selection after they have completed their KCSE exams in line with the new funding formula for universities and colleges.
“Following the introduction of a new funding model, applicants will make choices based on cost per program as published in the KUCCPS online application system,” said Basic Education PS Bellio Kipsang.
