LG And KFHI Hand Over KSh2 Million Beekeeping and STEM Projects to Nandi and Makueni Communities

LG Electronics East Africa, in partnership with Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI), has officially handed over two fully completed community projects valued at KSh2 million in Nandi and Makueni counties. The handovers mark the successful completion of the 2026 LG Ambassador Challenge CSR Initiative, transforming local livelihoods and educational access.

In Nandi County, the Sisia Village Sustainable Beekeeping and Economic Empowerment Initiative was officially presented to the local community. The project has successfully trained 40 youth and women in modern beekeeping and equipped 30 households (benefiting approximately 120 people) with modern hives and harvesting gear. The initiative is now fully operational and on track to hit its target of 1,500 kilograms of honey annually, providing a climate-resilient agribusiness model that boosts local incomes while supporting biodiversity through enhanced pollination.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Sisia Village Project Leader, Vincent Kiprotich, expressed gratitude for the initiative’s direct impact on local livelihoods:

“This project has given our women and youth a tangible way to earn an income. Receiving the modern hives and training has changed our perspective on farming, and we are now equipped to run a sustainable honey enterprise that will support our families for years to come.”

In Makueni County, learners and teachers at Syiluni Primary and Junior Secondary School celebrated the official opening of their fully furnished science laboratory equipped with modern practical apparatus and a dedicated digital lab featuring 10 computers. The completed facility bridges educational inequities in the underserved rural community by providing hands-on STEM education and digital literacy training to the school’s learners.

Highlighting the transformation at the school, Syiluni Primary/JSS Head Teacher, Stellamaris Musau, noted:

“For a long time, our students learned science and computer studies purely in theory. Having a fully equipped laboratory and computers directly in our school levels the playing field for our learners, giving them the practical skills and confidence they need to thrive in a digital world.”

The two projects were selected under the seventh edition of the LG Ambassador Challenge CSR Initiative, an annual corporate social responsibility initiative that funds locally developed, community-led solutions to Kenya’s most pressing social and economic challenges.

“Seeing these projects transition from ambitious proposals into fully operational, community-owned assets is deeply gratifying,” said Jane Kariuki, the Head of Marketing at LG Electronics East Africa.

“The LG Ambassador Challenge is built on the belief that the most transformative solutions come from within the communities themselves. Delivering these facilities today reflects our commitment to creating lasting economic opportunities, advancing education, and truly making Life’s Good for all.”

The completion of this year’s initiatives builds on the ongoing impact of last year’s LG Ambassador Challenge beneficiaries, including the Decipe Children’s Home and Rebirth of a Queen. Now in its seventh year, the initiative has invested over KSh15 million into high-impact grassroots projects across Kenya, already transforming the lives of more than 1,000 people.
