TSC Announces JSS Vacancies, Requirements And How To Apply

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has activated its online application portal and invited qualified primary school teachers who wish to be deployed to junior secondary schools, JSS.

According to TSC, the applications should be submitted via https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login and listed requirements primary school teachers must have for their deployment to work in JSS.

The commission has listed both academic qualifications and documents that are mandatory for the deployment process.

TSC said P1 teachers who meet the minimum requirements can visit the online portal where they will input their TSC number, ID number, and surname before proceeding to place an application

Teachers serving under permanent and pensionable terms in public primary schools and who meet the requisite qualifications should also apply.

The commission plans to deploy at least 6,000 PTE teachers to JSS this year as it seeks to address a 72,422-teacher

Earlier this year, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said that currently, 76,928 teachers are employed in Junior schools, accounting for only 51.5 percent of the total workforce required.

This includes 9,000 teachers who were hired directly on permanent and pensionable terms; 8,378 P1 teachers deployed in the last two years, and 39,550 teachers who were initially recruited as interns and later absorbed on permanent and pensionable terms.

TSC CEO added that the commission requires a total of 149,350 teachers to handle Grades 7, 8, and 9.

Qualifications To Teach In JSS

  1. Have an active registration as a teacher with the TSC
  2. Is employed as a primary school teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
  3. Should not be currently serving an interdiction or undergoing a disciplinary process.
  4. Have a minimum of a Diploma in Education with a minimum of C+ at KCSE (or its equivalent) with C+ in two teaching subjects currently being offered in the school curriculum (either under 8-4-4 or CBC) or two (2) principles and one (1) subsidiary pass at “A” Level
  5. Those with a minimum of C (plain) at KCSE (or its equivalent) and who have undertaken a Diploma in Education together with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education qualify.
  6. The degree certificate must be a Bachelor of Education. Bachelor of Education (Primary Option) holders are not eligible.
