Is Raila Odinga The Enabler Of Bad Governance In Kenya?

Today’s headlines are screaming. Raila Odinga saves Johnson Sakaja from being impeached. And this has kept me thinking: Is Raila Odinga the enabler of bad and corrupt governance in Kenya? What if Baba has been hiding in plain sight when all along he is one of the problems we should fix?

Let us face it. Raila Odinga has diehard followers. Some consider him the Messiah, the Savior, the Enigma of Kenyan politics. Mostly true. But when it comes to enabling bad governance, Raila Odinga is among the top enablers. Throw stones if you like.

Nairobi MCAs listed 20 crimes against Johnson Sakaja. All the crimes were on corruption and violation of the Constitution of Kenya. They wanted him gone. Impeached. And perhaps Nairobi County saved from the massive, ongoing looting.

But guess who saved his “son”? Raila Odinga. The man is regarded as the “Father of Kenyan Democracy.” He called his MCAs, mostly bots, and read them a riot act. He told them to forget about impeaching Sakaja. William Ruto also called his troops. For Ruto, that was expected because we know him.

This is not the first time Baba is “saving the corrupt.” Remember the time of Anne Waiguru? She became as white as snow despite hundreds of millions having been looted under her just because she visited Baba and “greeted him”. That is why Baba is sometimes referred to as Baba Fua.

When everyone was saying that William Ruto was bad, Baba, when the innocent Gen Zs were being killed, joined William Ruto. And today, he leads the main choir that sings the praises of William Ruto. If you have to hit William Ruto, you first have to go through Raila Odinga and his troops.

Counties led by ODM governors are among the worst in terms of governance, but MCAs in those counties dare say nothing because they do not want to “embarrass and upset” the Enigma. No need to write many things in big and fat English. The question is simple: Is Baba the enabler of bad governance in Kenya?
