Over 1 Million Candidates Kick Off KCPE And KPSEA Exams

Class eight and Grade six candidates started their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, KPSEA, examination on Monday 30^th October.

Some 1,415,315 students will write the national examinations, marking an end to the 8-4-4 competition for stellar grades that has characterized the country’s education system After nearly four decades.

Both exams end on Wednesday, November 1. The examinations will for the second year be administered simultaneously with the new Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

KPSEA is the new primary exit examination under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and are administered in Grade 6. And this year, some 1,282,574 candidates will sit the tests. Overall, a total of 24,906,837 candidates have sat the test in the 38 years it has been conducted.

Education PS Belio Kipsang has assured all candidates that all is good, to ensure all registered learners sit their exams.

“This is our last KCPE and we will not want any child to be disadvantaged. We have directed all officers to ensure all children sit for their exams,” Kipsang said on Monday morning.

Speaking on Monday, President William Ruto has urged the pupils sitting for the KCPE and KPSEA examinations to do their best. Passing a message of encouragement, the President told the students to remain confident as they entered the examination rooms.

“To all candidates who are doing this exam today, I wish you all the best and success in these exams. As you go into the exam room know that you are not alone so be confident, do your best,” Ruto said on Monday.
