Changes in the Education Sector to Curb Cheating

BY Soko Directory Team · May 19, 2016 06:05 am
The Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiang’i announced some drastic measures yesterday in what he termed as a measure towards doing away with examination cheating.
The Cabinet Secretary has banned any social gathering in schools during third term and school heads have been directed to ensure that is done.
This implies that the long tradition of schools organizing for prayers for their candidates before they sit for their exams is now illegal.
The CS has also banned the normal holiday half-term for third term and parents will not be allowed to visit their children during this period.
Even before the dust settles, people are already up in arms protesting against the move by the CS terming it irrational and unrealistic.
Kenyans took on the social media the whole of yesterday under the hashtag #KCPE and wondered how the banning of prayers in schools is going to help in curbing examination cheating in schools.
The church is yet to comment on the directive but since more than 90 percent of schools are funded by churches, a friction between the Ministry and them is bound to happen.
Examination cheating has been widespread in the country in the past years with last year’s examinations being the most affected.
During last year exams, examination papers were scattered all over the social media platforms days before students sat for them.
What shocked many was the constant denial and attempts to try and convince kenyans that the papers were fake by the examination body officials. The body has since been disbanded but no one has been taken to court concerning the same.

Education is key to the economy of a nation since it provides the much needed skills for the development of a nation. If the system is crippled and corrupt, the nation as well as the future generations are what are affected the most. Education is key.
