Tullow Oil has halted its operations in Kenya as protests by locals in Turkana rage on affecting its operations.

Speaking to Reuters, the Chief Executive Officer of Tullow Mr. Paul McDade said that the halting of the process is due to the security issues in the region.

Tullow has also suspended its trucking services saying that it will resume as soon as the concerns of the locals will be addressed.

Locals in Turkana have been up in arms blaming the national government for failing to provide them with security. They are also blaming Tullow for failing to employ the locals even for manual jobs.

The oil pilot program which had been launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta and which was trucking around 600 barrels of oil daily has now been halted.

According to Energy CS John Munyes, the taxpayer has already lost 400 million shillings in a period that the protests have been going on.

“As soon as the situation is fixed, we shall resume as soon as possible,” said Mr. McDade.
