Soko Maize Flour Gets A Clean Bill Of Health In Kiambu County

Kiambu County’s Public Health officials have cleared Soko Maize flour after official test results revealed that the product complied with allowable aflatoxin parameters.

The clearance means Soko Maize Meal can now trade freely in any outlets and is fit for human consumption. The flour had been banned in Kiambu County.

“Refer to the visit by Kiambu County Public Health Officials to your factory on 16th November 2019. Following the issuance of circular (KCG/CDH/VOL.1/39 dated 11th November 2019) to Sub County Public Health Officers (SCPHOs)

As a way forward, it was decided that joint sampling of your products be conducted across all the twelve sub-counties. A total of 43 samples were collected including twenty-one (21) samples of Soko maize flour and dry maize from your factory.

The analysis results received on 22nd November 2019, indicates that the sampled batch numbers for Soko maize flour as well as the dry maize have all complied with KS EAS 768:2019 on aflatoxin,” said Dr. David Kamundia Ndung’u, Chief Officer -Health Services at Kiambu County in a letter to Capwell Industries Limited.

On the recent analysis, your products have been found to be in compliance with food standards as
stipulated in the Food, Drugs and chemical substance act, Cap 254 L.O.K”, the Chief Officer-Health Services, Dr. Ndungu added.

While welcoming the analysis results, Capwell Industries Limited, Business Head, Mahesh Chavda said: “We are happy that Kiambu County Public Health officials have cleared Soko maize meal from aflatoxin contamination fears and ascertained that it is fit for human consumption.
