The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has said that it will offer pro bono legal advice to the bereaved families of the Kakamega primary stampede that claimed 14 lives.

In a statement issued on their Twitter handle, the LSK passed on its sympathy and condolences to the Kakamega parents for their pain and trauma due to the incident.

The LSK went ahead to say that through its West Kenya Branch, it would offer pro bono legal advice to the victims, to come to terms with the tragic event.

14 pupils were confirmed dead and more than 100 seriously injured in the Monday afternoon incident in Kakamega county.

According to reports, the incident occurred after a teacher beat up one of the pupils leading to the stampede at around 5 pm, Monday 3rd January 2020.

We urge the Government to act with speed and in the best interest of the welfare of the children and probe the matter to its core and come up with a plausible way forward, which will ensure such a tragedy never happens again,” read the statement released by the LSK.

William Ruto visited the school and the injured pupils at the hospital yesterday and said that the national government would work with the county government of Kakamega to offer essential assistance to the families.
