"Today, if I were paraded to give an account of my being, I would share the story with grace, painted in the glow and with colors to make it elaborate. Happy birthday to me, and may my guardian saint, Joseph the Worker, protect me and guide me through this turbulence of life."
Joseph Kubende, a young man from Bungoma County known for his melodious songs and oratory skills is dead. Kubende is said to have fallen from the fourth floor of an apartment in Roysambu but friends, family, and relatives are suspecting foul play.
Justo Misiko, a friend who was with him during his last moments, disclosed that Kubende died at Radiant Hospital, where he was rushed after falling. Kubende is a popular political mobilizer and orator who used his artistic skills to campaign for candidates in Bungoma, and Trans Nzoia counties.
“Joseph Kubende’s death isn’t normal. He was full of life. He was happy. He was going back to Washington today. He can’t have killed himself. Noooooo this is a lie! Who will sing for us? Who will serenade us with tales as we take over the country? Noooo,” said Steve Biko Wafula, a close friend.
In his last post on Facebook, Kubende wrote: “Today, if I were paraded to give an account of my being, I would share the story with grace, painted in the glow and with colors to make it elaborate. Some of his friends are suspecting that Kubende might have been murdered before being thrown from the fourth floor. They say there are visible marks on his neck and head, a clear sign that there was a struggle before his “fall.”
The “fall of Kubende” from a building adds to the growing list of Kenyans who have been dying by mysteriously falling off buildings in the past week. Most of the deaths have occurred in Kasarani and Thika, some were ruled as suicide but families read more than that.
