How To Apply For An Early Retirement From TSC As A Teacher

BY Getrude Mathayo · September 4, 2023 03:09 pm

The mandatory retirement age for teachers is currently 60 years and 65 years for those living with disabilities. However, the parliamentary committee is considering reducing the mandatory retirement age from the current 60 years to 55 to give young people an opportunity to be employed in the public service.

Teachers and Civil servants will now go for retirement after hitting age 55 if a bill that has been proposed to lower the retirement age sails through parliament.

According to Section 80(1) (a) and (b) of the Public Service Commission Act 2017 provides that a Public Officer shall retire from the service with effect from the date of attaining the mandatory retirement age.

Early retirement can be a painful reality, but you can mitigate the blow with some careful financial planning. When you retire freely, you might make preparations to continue earning money and living the way you have become accustomed to.

The teacher shall apply in writing through the head of the institution giving three months’ notice, stating the intended date of retirement.

Upon receipt of the application, the Commission shall: Consider the application and issue a retirement notice. Process retirement claim upon receipt of required documents from the teacher. The claim will then be forwarded to the Director of Pension, Treasury, for payment.
