As anticipation builds ahead of the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s (TEF) 2026 cohort announcement, the impact of the programme in Kenya is coming into sharp focus with over 1,292 Kenyan entrepreneurs already empowered with each receiving USD 5,000 seed capital, training, mentorship, and belonging to a community of TEF alumni beneficiaries since the program’s inception in 2015.

The announcement, expected tomorrow, 22nd March 2026, will see a new group of entrepreneurs join one of Africa’s largest entrepreneurship support initiatives, further expanding a network that has reached over 24,000 entrepreneurs across the continent.

In Kenya, the programme has supported businesses across key sectors including agri-business, ICT, manufacturing, healthcare, and retail, reflecting the country’s diverse and evolving entrepreneurial landscape. Many of these businesses have gone on to create jobs, strengthen value chains, and contribute to local economic growth.

With nearly half of all beneficiaries being women, the initiative is also advancing inclusive economic participation — a critical factor in driving sustainable development across communities.

Speaking ahead of the announcement, TEF CEO Somachi Chris-Asoluka emphasized the broader significance of the programme: “Entrepreneurship is Africa’s most powerful tool for economic transformation. When we empower entrepreneurs, we are creating jobs, building businesses, and shaping the future of our continent.”

The growing number of applicants each year highlights a strong pipeline of entrepreneurial talent in Kenya, particularly among young people seeking to build scalable, impact-driven businesses. However, it also underscores the need for expanded access to funding, mentorship, and structured support.

As Kenya continues to position itself as a regional hub for innovation and enterprise, initiatives like the Tony Elumelu Foundation are playing a critical role in unlocking potential and accelerating economic opportunity.

The unveiling of the 2026 cohort is expected to further deepen this impact, bringing new entrepreneurs into a programme that has consistently demonstrated the power of African-led solutions to African challenges.
