Carrefour in Kenya has expanded its retail footprint in the country with the opening of a new store in Thome along the Northern Bypass in Marurui, bringing the total number of Carrefour stores in Kenya to 36.

The new outlet spans more than 1,600 square metres and offers shoppers access to approximately 13,000 products across a wide range of categories. The store stocks fresh produce, groceries, household essentials, health and beauty products, as well as a selection of Carrefour private-label products.

The new store has also been fitted with self-checkout counters, giving customers an additional option for completing their purchases while supporting a faster and more convenient shopping experience.

The opening of the Thome outlet has created 33 direct employment opportunities for Kenyans, contributing to Carrefour Kenya’s workforce of more than 3,000 colleagues across its growing retail network. Beyond direct employment, the expansion is expected to provide additional opportunities for local suppliers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by creating another platform through which locally sourced products can reach consumers.

Through its network of stores, Carrefour has continued to work with local suppliers to stock a broad range of products, supporting market access for businesses seeking to grow their customer base and strengthen their presence in the retail sector.

The Thome store is strategically located along the Northern Bypass, serving residents of Thome, Marurui and surrounding neighbourhoods. Its location is expected to provide shoppers in the area with greater access to a wide selection of everyday products within their local community.

The latest opening further increases Carrefour Kenya’s presence across the country as the retailer continues to expand its network and invest in its operations. The growth comes as organised retail continues to evolve, with consumers increasingly seeking convenience, product variety and accessible shopping locations.

For Majid Al Futtaim, the expansion reflects its continued investment in Kenya’s retail sector and its focus on bringing modern retail services closer to more communities.

The opening of the Thome store therefore marks another step in Carrefour Kenya’s expansion journey, while contributing to employment creation and providing additional opportunities for local businesses and suppliers to participate in the retail value chain.

With 36 stores now operating across the country, Carrefour Kenya continues to build its presence while seeking to make a broader range of products and modern retail services more accessible to consumers.
