As the Kenyan general elections are only a stone-throw away, public service vehicles (PSVs) out of Nairobi are already fully-booked as Kenyans leave the city for the general elections back home. It is not clear whether they are going to vote or are running away.

The transport situation has been made worse after Professor George, who seemed to have just woken up and realized that elections were coming, ordered that school close by Tuesday. The order from the good Prof got both parents and teachers unawares.
“I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the immediate closure of all basic education institutions from Tuesday 2 until Wednesday 10 August to ensure that preparations and conduct of upcoming elections are carried out seamlessly,” Magoha said in a statement.

Given that the upcoming general elections have been deemed “high stake”, chances are most Kenyans want to be closer to their rural homes when the voting and the announcement of the winner is done. The main two candidates are Raila Odinga and William Ruto.
The movement might also be emanating from the venom that some of the politicians are spewing that has the potential of causing another post-election violence in some parts of the country. There are already allegations of leaflets carrying threats towards certain communities circulating in Rift Valley although the police have disputed the claims.

The elections will be happening on August 9, 2022. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already told Kenyans that the elections will be credible with Wafula Chebukati saying that “We shall not announce the winner at night. We shall do it in broad daylight.”
